5th Annual Earth Day Chalk Art Challenge

Redondo Beach, CA,

April 18th

EARTH DAY, what a beautiful way to honor this place we all call home.  So get outside, take it all in, it is such a stimulating, relaxing, energized, tranquil place to be!  On Saturday, April 18th, The King Harbor Association is sponsoring its 5th Annual Earth Day Chalk Art Challenge.   Chalk art has a history dating back to the 16th century in Italy. Street artists there were called ‘Madonnari” and traveled from festival to festival, referred to as vagabonds, often acting as the visual counterparts of minstrels. They made their living from coins tossed into a collection plate beside their artwork.

So come out to the Sea Wall in Redondo Beach, just to the south of the Seaside Lagoon and claim the concrete as your canvas and join dozens of artists, amateurs and professionals who  bring the streets of King Harbor to life with color!  Participants of all ages are encouraged to create a chalk art drawing to commemorate Earth Day.  This family friendly challenge wants to inspire the youth to get involved by offering the first 100 that sign up free chalk and a canvas, recycled, reusable tote bag, that they create another masterpiece on by painting with associates of the Redondo Beach Arts Group.

If engaging in the artwork doesn’t interest you, come anyway and check out all that these individuals are creating.  There will be breathtaking oversized traditional works plus unbelievable illusionistic 3D drawings.  The challenge will resemble a museum-in-motion, as artists take to their hands and knees with pastel chalk as their medium to create masterpieces alongside this beautiful setting.

Redondo Beach’s King Harbor is the place to be on Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. as they chalk it up!  Join in on the fun as a participant or as an onlooker and interact with the artists as they go about creating their masterpieces!
